Sarodj Bertin has achieved many goals and added many titles to her name. Being an actress, lawyer, entrepreneur, Goodwill Ambassador, First Miss Haiti Universe champion in 2010, Hispano-American Queen crowned in 2012, and President of The Sarodj for a Purpose foundation are all titles she has achieved. Since 2002 she has worked for the International Alliance for Haiti’s Recovery (IAHR), Manitas en las Calles, and many other foundations. In 2011 she created her own non-profit organization, Sarodj for a Purpose. Her main goal is to help people in her country and around the world become productive, healthy, and responsible human beings.
Since 2010 Sarodj has being acting, and she has since then starred in many movies. Her first feature film was shot just as she was beginning her acting career and is called The Voodoo List. A few other films she has starred in consist of Ego Trip, One Night in Vegas, The Heartbreaker’s revenge, and Sharktopus vs. Werewolf. Sarodj Bertin has a purpose in life, and wishes to help achieve something for her people. In turn leaving her mark on history and not because of who she is, but because of her deeds.
Amps: Tell our readers a little bit about yourself and where you grew up?
Sarodj: I was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti on April 11, 1986. I am known as an actress and a beauty queen but before becoming a beauty queen I was actually a lawyer. I have a Master’s degree in “international Business Law and Litigation” and I worked as a business Lawyer for 3 years. I took a break from business law when I received the news that the “Miss Haiti Universe Contest” would be celebrated for the first time after 22 years of absence. I believe that opportunities come to you not when you expect them but when they are meant to; so I decided to quit my job in order to participate in becoming Miss Haiti 2010. After the contest I was invited all over the world to very special events, where I met several people from film industry in Hollywood and in Europe. I did not know how passionate I was about acting until I actually shot my first Movie “The Voodoo’s list”, with Italian director “Angelo Rizzo”. I remember being so happy waking up at five am every morning to go to the set. It was a beautiful experience and I would say that experience made me fall in love with acting.
Amps: While researching your story I saw that you are a very well educated lady. What did you want to be when you were younger?
Sarodj: I wanted to become a lawyer, just like my mother, and so I did. When I started working as a lawyer, I was very passionate about it, and I felt very proud for my achievement at such a young age. I would have never thought that I wanted to become an actress, but the opportunities knocked at my door. This made me discover new passions and directed me towards a different path.
Amps: How do you balance all the things you are doing?
Sarodj: I love what I do, so I find time to do it all. I also make the best of it all. I get that question very often, Lawyer, philanthropist, actress, TV host, radio host, how can you do everything? My answer is always going to be that I love my work and I am passionate about everything I do. So I put a lot of effort and dedication into all of them. I do not like to have free time and I wish I could always be busy. I love feeling productive and making the best of every moment. Knowing every day I accomplish new things and that I change people’s lives makes me happy.
Amps: What are you most proud of in your life thus far?
Sarodj: I am proud of every step I take in my life, and every obstacle I overcome. I know where I am going, and each experience takes me a step closer to my goal.
Amps: Is there any person in your life that you would like to give props to that was a key factor to who you are today?
Sarodj: My mother Mireille Durocher Bertin. She has always been my role model and will always be, because she is the most incredible women I have ever seen. She knew how to be a fighter and defend her country, she is a compassionate human being, and the best wife and mother to her family. Being a solider, caring, strong, and independent woman has one name and that name is Mireille Durocher Bertin. She has really inspired me to be who I am today.
Amps: What else is in the cards for Ms. Bertin?
Sarodj: I have been working on several project this year, and have several more in the works for next year. I love to be busy and I love to work. There is always something new going on in my life, and I think that’s why I never get bored.
Amps: What is a normal day like for you?
Sarodj: I have my daily routine. I wake up very early in the morning and I start off doing my vocal exercises. Once I have finished my vocal exercises then I practice the piano. I usually practice playing for a while before I go to the gym. After my workout I am ready to get my day started. No matter what I choose to do during the day I always make sure I do something productive.
Amps: What are you top three things to do for fun?
Sarodj: When I do have free time I like to write, read, and watch movies.
Amps: Who are the top three men that you find most attractive?
Sarodj: My top three men that I find most attractive are George Clooney, Cristiano Ronaldo, and David Beckham.
Amps: What is the craziest thing you have done?
Sarodj: I took a flight to Europe, and came back the next day. That was crazy for me but I’ll do it all over again for the right reasons: Work, friends, or love.
Amps: Tell us something about you that no one else knows that would surprise your family or fans if they knew?
Sarodj: I could surprise my fans maybe but definitely not my family. We are so attached to each other, and they literally know everything about me. One thing I used to do as a kid is that I ate ants. I’m not sure why I did it and I had no particular reason for it at all. I just liked eating them. The same way I liked eating candy.
