Darryl “D.C.” Chambers, a native of the small town of Valley, Alabama, has steadily built a name for himself in the world of modeling, acting, and entertainment over the past seventeen years. From humble beginnings on the basketball court to commanding attention on screens and stages across the country, Chambers’ story is one of resilience, reinvention, and relentless pursuit of purpose. His journey began in high school, where he played center/forward on the basketball team. At 6’6”, his height and athleticism initially seemed like a promising gateway to a professional sports career. “It was something that I wanted to do in the beginning,” Chambers shared, reflecting on his early dreams. “I felt that I could go the distance.” But reality struck when he realized the professional level demanded more than just talent—it required an all-consuming passion. “You have to eat, sleep, and breathe basketball to make it to the professional level,” he said candidly. Adding to that, a series of serious injuries, including three MCL tears, derailed any hope of going further in the sport. “It doesn’t take but one, and I’ve had quite a few,” he admitted. With his basketball dreams behind him, Darryl shifted his focus to his education, enrolling at Alabama State University, where he majored in business marketing—a field he felt could provide steady employment and open doors in a variety of industries.
“I got a marketing degree simply because I knew that I could always be gainfully employed,” he explained. “Marketing is everything. It’s advertising, it’s selling, it’s branding—it’s essential to business.” Motivated by the idea that money and opportunity are closely tied to one’s ability to market a product or brand, Chambers dove deep into his studies and started building the foundation for his future career. Interestingly, his transition into modeling happened by chance. One of his mother’s co-workers saw a prom photo of Darryl and remarked that he was “very photogenic.” At first, the idea didn’t appeal to him, but eventually, curiosity led him to try his hand at modeling in a local show near his hometown. From there, the spark ignited. Once at Alabama State, he joined the Elite Modeling Troupe and began participating in more shows, including a significant fashion event in Montgomery produced by Perry Varner. That show became a turning point. “I woke up the next day and had so many friend requests and comments,” he recalled. For someone who grew up shy and quiet as an only child, the sudden attention and praise gave him a boost of confidence. “I started really gaining a little muscle after just being this tall, skinny kid for so long… it just fueled me to want to keep going.”
From modeling, the path naturally led to acting—a new challenge Darryl was eager to face. “Modeling would only take me so far,” he said. “I wanted to switch avenues and do something that would challenge me on a different level.” With acting, he found a new platform to express himself and fulfill his deep-rooted desire to entertain. His acting credits quickly began stacking up. Over the years, he’s appeared in AMC’s “Horror Noire,” “XXI O’Day,” “Trashville,” “Love Therapy Atlanta,” “Carpool,” “Scrilla: The Root of Evil,” as well as popular true-crime docuseries like TV One’s “For My Man” and “Fatal Attraction.” He’s also a recurring character in Kountry Wayne’s web sketches and has been featured in over twenty commercials and promos. Darryl’s portfolio is not only diverse but continues to grow, thanks to his consistent work ethic and dedication to learning the craft.
When asked what motivated him to keep going in an industry known for its unpredictability and harsh criticism, Chambers doesn’t sugarcoat his journey. He recalls the early days when people laughed at his modeling ambitions. “A lot of people were saying, what is he doing? He’s too tall for this.” But he stayed true to his path. “I had a plan. I knew what I wanted to do. I followed the path that I felt like God put me on instead of listening to people.” That spiritual and internal compass has been crucial during times of doubt. Like many in the entertainment world, Darryl has faced moments when he questioned the realism of his dream. “Is it a realistic dream for me to actually make a living off this? To get the notoriety I want?” he wondered. But each time, he chose to keep going—and it’s that decision that has brought him to where he is today.
Now based in Atlanta, Chambers continues to grow, develop, and stay active in the entertainment world. He currently has three projects in post-production, though he’s keeping details under wraps for now. Despite his success, he remains grounded and focused on what’s next. “Don’t give up,” he advises aspiring entertainers. “If it’s something you really want, and you have a passion and love for it, keep going.” His words aren’t just motivational—they come from lived experience. Had he given in to self-doubt or let others define his journey, he wouldn’t be where he is today. “Had I given up, it wouldn’t have happened. We wouldn’t be talking right now.”
